MEGAN STRACHAN

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

-Carl Rogers

Hi, I'm Megan.

Registered Psychotherapist & Former Lawyer

Welcome! I am glad you're here.

I understand stress, anxiety, pressure, and burnout. I have always expected a lot from myself, and I have struggled with negative self-talk and intense anxiety.

During a difficult period in my life, I connected with a wonderful therapist. This experience opened my eyes to the impact that therapy can have on wellness and quality of life.

When I began considering a transition away from the practice of law, I realized that my values, past experiences, and intuition were all leading me towards the same thing: pursuing higher education in psychology to become a therapist myself.

Let's chat to see if we would be a good fit to work together!

Peaceful Reading

We are a good fit to work together if:

You are a high-achieving professional or student struggling with the following at work or at home:

low self-confidence

negative self-talk

anxiety & stress

perfectionism

relationships

people pleasing & boundaries

You feel stuck or unsure about where you are going in life.

You have experienced trauma in the past and want to figure out how to move forward.

You want to develop deeper, more authentic relationships - with yourself, or with others.

You are looking to deeply explore yourself, your beliefs, values, and all your parts (even the scary ones or the ones you may not like).

You are looking to go beyond coping skills (though we can incorporate those along the way!) and get to the root of your challenges.

My approach is...

Trauma-informed.

I have specialized training in trauma therapy, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Focused on deep work as well as coping strategies.

I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help foster meaningful self-insight that can lead to lasting changes in your relationship with yourself and others. We can incorporate coping and regulation skills as needed.

Integrative.

I will draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches to help you meet your goals.

Compassionate

My own compassion and empathy led me to a career as a therapist, and I offer this to all of my clients. I provide a warm and non-judgmental space for clients to be their authentic selves. I also work with clients to help develop compassion and kindness towards themselves. â€‹â€‹

Collaborative

I work with you. You are the expert on your life. We will come up with a plan for therapy together that you feel comfortable with.

Evidence-based.

I use evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),  Eye Movement Desensitization (EMDR), mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic-based practices to help regulate our emotions and our nervous systems.

Outside of work, I â€‹prioritize time in nature (preferably around mountains and alpine lakes), spending quality time with friends and family, training for and running ultramarathons, or relaxing with a good fantasy book.

I have two fluffy cats, who you might occasionally see on camera - but don’t worry, they take confidentiality very seriously!

My core values are openness, enthusiasm, bravery, creativity, and adventure.

I also love re-watching my favourite sitcoms, including The Office, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Parks and Recreation, and The Mindy Project.

I consider myself an extroverted introvert - I LOVE people (especially the people that I love), but I need that time alone on the trail, or with my cats, or with my book, to really recharge.

I love my work, but it isn't all that I am.
