What is ACT therapy?

ACT is one of my major therapeutic approaches that’s all about accepting your thoughts and feelings without letting them control your life or denying them. ACT is not about avoidance, suppression, or judgment of what we think and feel. Through ACT therapy, you can discover and accept that it's okay to have negative emotions and that you don't need to eliminate them altogether to live a fulfilling life. We all experience distressing thoughts and emotions – this is a part of being human.

However, we can learn how to move through these distressing experiences without becoming overwhelmed, out of control, or overly hard on ourselves. Once this is possible, we create more choices for ourselves and increase our ability to adapt to whatever life brings.

ACT focuses on helping you connect with what truly matters to you – your core values and your goals for your life.  We will work on cultivating deep personal insight so you can create more agency, meaning, and purpose in your everyday life.

 ACT is a very practical approach, so if you like specific, actionable steps that you can take in your life and practice outside of our therapy sessions, you may be a natural fit for this kind of therapy.
