Emotionally-Focused
Therapy (EFT)
Understand, explore, and
transform difficult emotions
What is Emotionally Focused Therapy?
Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) is a powerful therapeutic approach that centers on the role of emotions in our mental health and relationships.
EFT is rooted in the belief that understanding and processing our emotions can lead to profound personal growth and healing.
Through EFT, we can discover what our emotions are telling us, and understand that they are vital sources of information that can guide us toward healing and fulfillment. Rather than viewing our emotions as obstacles and struggling against them, they can become our allies.
Can Emotionally-Focused Therapy help me?
EFT is a flexible approach that can benefit a variety of clients. It can be especially helpful when you're struggling with:
Anxiety and Depression: By addressing underlying emotional conflicts, EFT can reduce symptoms and promote emotional well-being.
Relationship Challenges: EFT helps us to understand and express emotional needs, improve communication, and foster deeper connections.
Trauma and Grief: EFT provides a safe space to process difficult emotions related to past traumas or losses, facilitating healing and recovery.
Self-Esteem and Identity Issues: Clients often gain clarity and acceptance of their emotional experiences, leading to improved self-worth and identity.
What to expect from Emotionally-Focused Therapy
Emotionally-Focused Therapy is collaborative process between therapist and client, where emotions are explored, understood, and transformed. It often includes the following:
Emotional Awareness: Clients learn to recognize and articulate their emotions.
Emotion Processing: The therapist guides clients in exploring their emotional experiences in depth. This may involve revisiting past events, understanding emotional triggers, and recognizing patterns that impact current well-being.
Emotion Regulation: Clients develop skills to manage and regulate their emotions effectively. This includes learning how to cope with overwhelming feelings and harnessing emotions as a source of strength.
Integration and Change: As clients gain insight into their emotional experiences, they begin to integrate these insights into their lives. This often leads to changes in behavior, improved relationships, and a greater sense of self-acceptance.
